The patient’s detailed MRI is used to create a detailed virtual model of the femoral knee forming the base of Episurf’s so called Damage Marking Report (DMR). The report enables 3D visualisation of:
- Cartilage damage
- Subchondral bone damage such as bone edema and cysts
- Signs after previous surgeries
- (Osteo)arthritic signs
- Other pathologies

This 3D visualisation will enable the clinical team to explore a patient’s individual level of damage and assess their suitability for an Episealer implant. If it is assessed that an Episealer is a suitable option for the patient, an order shall be confirmed for the implant and associated tools for treatment of the chondral or osteochondral defect. The suggested Episealer pre-planning visualisation ‘Final Design’, if appropriate, will be provided by Episurf, showing the exact planned position of the Epiguide and Episealer. This positioning can be fine-tuned through communication between Episurf and the responsible surgeon if so needed.
All Episurf Damage Marking Reports are accompanied with a virtual, interactive 3D model of the patient’s knee. This model enables the surgeon to navigate through the knee and add/remove structures and devices in order to get a better visualisation of the lesion, implant and cartilage.
