Transforming CABG: TCRAT Cadaver Workshop with Dr. Oleksandr Babliak

Pacific Medical Systems successfully hosted a pioneering surgical training event on November 23, 2025, facilitating an intensive cadaver workshop on the TCRAT technique at the University of Hong Kong. Led by the renowned Ukrainian surgeon Dr. Oleksandr Babliak, the workshop introduced Hong Kong’s cardiac surgical community to a transformative approach to multi-vessel Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG).

The TCRAT technique (Total Coronary Revascularization via left Anterior Thoracotomy) is a groundbreaking procedure developed by Dr. Babliak. It enables complete surgical revascularization through a single small incision in the 4th intercostal space, utilizing cardiopulmonary bypass. This offers a minimally invasive, on-pump alternative to traditional sternotomy, aiming to reduce patient trauma, accelerate recovery, and improve cosmetic outcomes without compromising surgical completeness.

The workshop provided senior cardiac surgeons with an immersive, hands-on experience. The core session focused on practical application, where participants engaged directly with Dr. Babliak’s specially designed retractor systems and instrumentation. These proprietary tools are critical for achieving the exposure and precision necessary to access and graft all target vessels, including those on the posterior heart, through the limited-access thoracotomy.

Interactive discussions addressed key clinical topics: optimal patient selection, technical strategies for intraoperative challenges, and the importance of dedicated surgical team training. The dialogue reinforced TCRAT’s value as a sophisticated hybrid approach, merging the reliability of on-pump surgery with the benefits of minimal access.

This event underscores Pacific Medical Systems’ commitment to advancing surgical care by facilitating access to global expertise and innovative techniques. The workshop generated significant interest and positive feedback, indicating a strong potential for local clinical adoption. By bridging pioneering surgical innovation with Hong Kong’s medical leaders, we are helping to expand advanced treatment options and improve patient outcomes in the region.
